I made a birthday cake for my fiance

I decided to make my fiance's cake for her birthday this year. She gave me a general idea of what she wanted and I had free reign to try out some cake recipes and techniques as well which I don't get much opportunity for. I tried out lots of things such as making a checkered pattern and trying out recipes for mousse, icing and ganache. It may not have turned out the prettiest but it was pretty ambitious for my first cake I made. All things considered it tasted pretty good and that's what matters in the end. I wish I could have more opportunities to try baking but I most enjoy sharing it with friends when the opportunity arises so we don't have to eat it all ourselves. In the end I learned a lot from trying out so many things on one cake and would not make something so ambitious next time but try to focus on less is more.
