Learning how to knit

I started learning how to knit to make christmas gifts for family members this year. This is just my first attempt and there's already plenty of mistakes that I had to start over a few times. The hardest part for me was learning how to cast on the stitches onto the needles. I kept ending up with more and more stitches as well which didn't seem right since I would go from 20 to 40 over time as well as a few holes. I think I just have to keep at it and i'll get it figured out, the further I get in the scarf the more i'll learn with each row.
